O’Sullivan
JOS Ventures is the personal holding company for Jack O’Sullivan.
Jack is an Irish serial-entrepreneur in the industries of Sustainability, Mobility and Technology.
About
Jack O'Sullivan was raised in Dublin, Ireland and his entrepreneurial journey began at a young age when he needed to fund his passion for mountain biking. He started importing bike parts from China at the age of 14 and resold them at a higher price in the Irish market. This early venture eventually became Jack's first bicycle brand, Vital Fixies.
After several years of building Vital Fixies and commuting between Asia and Ireland, Jack decided to relocate to Vietnam to work directly with a factory and develop a bike that could replace cars - Modmo. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and associated military-lockdowns, Jack stayed in Vietnam and grew the local team to 50 people, who primarily worked on product development and manufacturing.
Following the closure of Modmo, Jack took advantage of the time and embarked on a 6-month, 30,000km motorbike camping trip throughout Southeast Asia. Currently, Jack is focusing on his next venture while also supporting other startups in the region.

Vital Fixies was Jack’s first business which he founded in 2014 whilst in high-school. Vital Fixies was a direct to consumer brand of Fixies, or fixed-gear single speed bikes, targeted at tech workers in Dublin.
Vital Fixies operated between 2014 and 2019 where Jack primarily managed the business himself.
After completing high school, Jack made a decision to relocate to Vietnam and fully dedicate himself to building a eBike that could replace your car - Modmo.

Modmo was a premium brand of high-tech eBikes designed for the European commuter. With innovative features such as a handlebar display, Apple’s Find-My location tracking and 120km battery range, Modmo was described as the ‘Tesla of eBikes’.
Jack launched a 3D concept video of the bike he imagined in early 2020. Within 3 months, the company had received €1M of pre-orders. One year later, Modmo had completed product developed and began deliveries in Germany.
With positive feedback and a booming eBike market, Modmo raised accumulative investments of $10M throughout 2022 to fund an aggressive production ramp-up. We built a team of 65 people, primarily in Vietnam but also in Germany and Ireland.
In the summer of 2023, with record-high supply and declining sales evident across the bicycle industry, it was clear that Modmo’s ambitious growth and associated cash burn was unsustainable, and a decision was made to wind up with business and sell off the assets.
